We had a minor ice storm here in Québec last night. It caused power outages across the province. J'étais sans électricité pendant environ dix-sept heures - ridicule! En plus, la glace a même fait tomber quelques arbres, par exemple:
Sadly, yes. It happens every year, though we usually have some warning. Last night was a freak storm, it came out of nowhere and was over in about 6 hours.
so six hours is a minor storm? wow. we'd occasionally get ice storms in new england but i don't think they last that long, snowstorms on the other hand can last more than a day.
